I don’t like complex character designs because they’re harder to animate. As my style has progressed, my character designs have become more and more simplified. My main inspiration is usually Dragon Ball, because of its recognizable shapes and also the style of 90s anime.
Maybe because of my work as a children’s illustrator, my illustrations often feel childlike, using flat yet bright colors.
My favorite thing to do is animating. I love seeing how things move, observing them, and then replicating that in my animation. My favorite animator is Mitsuo Iso, who animates so economically, focusing only on dynamic poses. Even without many in-betweens, his animation still feels alive.
For me, it’s like a journey to the heart. I think storyboarding is the process where we see our true selves. There are no boundaries here—only imagination. That’s why, to me, it’s the most exciting but also the most difficult part.
